Sahar Zangeneh

Sahar Zangeneh, PhD (she/her)

Founder and principal consultant

Sahar designs and analyzes trials, surveys, and observational studies, and develops methods for missing data and selection bias. She teaches at the University of Washington and is a statistical editor for Nature Medicine.

Sahar Zangeneh (she/her) is a (bio)statistician specializing in the design and analysis of experimental and observational studies, including complex sample surveys, individual- and community-randomized trials, and observational cohort studies. Her methodological work focuses on developing statistical methods for addressing missingness and non-random selection, particularly when missingness or selection depends on unobserved factors (missing not at random). Her collaborative research spans across translational, clinical and population-level studies with a focus on health equity. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington, where she teaches graduate courses and mentors students. She is a statistical editor for Nature Medicine and elected chair of the American Statistical Association's Committee on Applied Statisticians.

Ali Shojaie, PhD (he/him)

Ali works at the intersection of statistical machine learning and network analysis, with applications in biology and the social sciences. He is an endowed professor at the University of Washington and a statistical reviewer for NEJM AI.

Ali Shojaie (he/him) is the Norm Breslow Endowed Professor of Biostatistics and Statistics at the University of Washington, where he serves as Interim Chair of the Department of Biostatistics. His research lies at the intersection of statistical machine learning, statistical network analysis, and applications in biology and social sciences. He is the founding director of the Summer Institute for Statistics in Big Data (SISBID) at the University of Washington and Lead of the Data Management and Statistics (DMS) Core of the UW Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC). He is the editor of the New England Journal of Statistics in Data Science and a statistical reviewer for NEJM AI. He has chaired over 20 doctoral dissertations and advised numerous postdocs and junior researchers.

Lending our expertise

Rigorous statistics shouldn't be available only to organizations that can afford it. Our name

Our name pays homage to the Cascades and reflects three principles at the core of our practice: decisions cascade downstream; like the peaks of the range, each study is distinct and calls for its own approach; and impact comes from collaboration, just as the range shapes the climate together.
